CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) – Dr. Dave Blanchard joins John Thomas on 3 News First Edition to discuss a recent study concerning weight loss, as well as to provide some food safety tips for Thanksgiving.
A recent study shows that cutting fats and carbohydrates from one’s diet does not always result in long term weight loss. The study that was performed in Israel and reviewed by Harvard associates involved 3,000 people, with half of them being given a low carb diet, and the other half receiving a diet low in fats. Dr. Blanchard says the results of the study show that while the people performing the diets did lose some weight, most ended up gaining it back.
In order to keep weight off in the long-run, Dr. Blanchard says that sticking to a diet plan is key, and that 15 minutes of exercise a day is one of the best things to do.
Dr. Blanchard also gives information concerning proper food storage in order to help those trying to decide what to do with all the leftover food from the holidays. He says leaving food out for longer than 2 hours can create the potential for food born illnesses to occur. He also advises viewers to eat all leftovers within four days of cooking it, and to make sure the food is properly wrapped when stored away.
While most individuals do overcome food born illnesses with little harm done, Dr. Blanchard warns that young and elderly can be seriously effected by the illnesses.
